A Little About Loveland

Loveland, Colorado, the second largest city in Larimer County under Fort Collins, is located approximately 50 miles north of Denver and is home to approximately 78,877 people. In 2003 AARP named Loveland the “number one place to reinvent your life” and a “dream town” for retirees. In this study Loveland received high marks for affordable housing, with housing just above the national median, as well as accessibility to outdoor recreation, entertainment, culture, health care and an airport. Recognized also for its low crime rate, which is only about half the national average, Loveland is not only the best place to reinvent your life, but also the safest.

With 300 days of sunshine each year, such easy access to the mountains that it has been called the “Gateway to the Rockies”, and numerous lakes and parks, Loveland is the perfect place for anyone interested in spending time outdoors. Activities include hiking, rock climbing, biking, skiing, snowboarding, boating, water skiing, white water rafting, swimming, and more. Among the less strenuous recreation options are golfing, bird watching, picnicking in the city’s dozens of picnic areas and gazebos and exploring the 16 miles of local walking trails.

The Budweiser event center, a multi-use venue with a seating capacity of 7,200, is home to the American Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles. The center hosts events ranging from basketball, hockey and indoor football to graduation ceremonies and concerts. A few of the big-name groups that have performed at the Budweiser event center are the Harlem Globetrotters, World Wrestling Entertainment, Casting Crowns, Foreigner and Montgomery Gentry.

Home to an unusually high number of local artists, Loveland maintains over 200 pieces of public art and hosts two of the largest annual outdoor sculpture shows in the world. The McWhinney Hahn Sculpture Park and the Benson Park Sculpture Garden feature local bronze art, while the Chapungu Sculpture Park exhibits authentic African stone sculptures from Zimbabwe. Certainly worth visiting, these sculpture parks display so much artistic talent and natural beauty.

Linked to the Chapungu Sculpture Park are the Promenade Shops at Centerra, an outdoor lifestyle center boasting fountains, art and 60 specialty shops and restaurants. Not only attracting local shoppers from loveland, the Promenade Shops at Centerra have become a major shopping destination for all of Northern Colorado.  This shopping mall not only incorporates fresh air and culture into the shopping experience, but also allows shoppers to include their furry friends. Although not all the shops in this dog-friendly mall allow pets yet, “dogs welcome” signs hang in the windows of over half of the establishments.

Just across the highway from the Promenade shops lies the Medical Center of the Rockies. A sister hospital to the award-winning Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, the Medical Center of the Rockies has won a few awards of its own since it opened in 2008. These awards include being named the Exemplary Service Overall Best Performer by Avatar International over 299 other medical facilities and receiving the Greener Facilities Grand Prize by Buildings magazine for the environmentally friendly design of the hospital. With services ranging from birthing centers to cardiac care and from hyperbaric oxygen treatments to orthopedic and neurological trauma care, the Medical center of the Rockies is prepared to treat every health need.
